COSMOLOGY

Cosmology is the study about Universe, consists of millions of Galaxies. A galaxy is a contributions of millions stars held together by the forces of gravity.

Kepler  said that the sun was the centre of the solar system and not the universe . He proved that the planets move around the sun not in circles but in ellipses and in different  speeds. In 1805,

Hershel made a theory and clear about  the solar system much larger system of stars called galaxy.

Edwin Hubble in 1924 first  proved that these galaxies are flying away from each other and that the farther they are, the faster they fly.  Akash Ganga consists of over a 100 billion stars rotating us and blown up.

Our galaxy is Milky Way Galaxy .

 Our nearest  galaxy is Andromeda.

Light Year means  the distance covered by  one year in vacuum at a speed of 3 x 10³ km/s.

It is the mean distance between the earth and the sun.

One light year is equal to 60.000 A.U.

Stars are self-luminous bodies.

A  Stars are filled with  the Nuclear Fusion of hydrogen to form helium deep in their interiors.

A stars may live for billions of years.A larger star life is very shorter than a small size of star.

Sirius is the Brightest star outside our Solar System also called Dog Star.

Proxima is the Closest star of Solar System .

Then come Alpha Centauri (4,3 light years away) and Barnard's Star (5.9 light years away).

We can seen from Earth, the most shiny objects in sky  are Sun, Moon, Venus. Jupiter, Sirius, Mars, Mercury, etc.

SOLAR SYSTEM

Our solar system consists of sun and 8 Planets (Jupiter,Saturn,Uranus,Neptune,Earth,Venus,Mars and Mercury) , 5 Dwarf and countless fragments are called asteroids, meteors, comets and satellites of the planets .

THE SUN

It  is a stars in the milky way galaxy.

It takes 224 million years to complete one circle i.e(revolution) around the galactic circle ( it is called cosmic year),

The sun is 109 times bigger than the earth and weighs 2 x 10²⁷ tons.

Photosphere is glowing surface of the Sun which temperature about  5,500°C.

 Corona is visible during eclipses.

The core of the sun has the temperature about 15 million degrees Celsius.

Solar Wind is a stream which is a collection of protons and electrons blowing out of corona and sweeping over the solar system.

The energy of sun comes from the fusion of hydrogen into helium.

Sunlight takes 8 min, 16.6 sec to reach earth.

THE PLANETS  (100 easy general knowledge questions and answers for student)

A  planet is a celestial body

Our  solar system has eight planets and 5 dwarf planets are Pluto, Ceres, Eris, Makemake and Haumea.

Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars  are called Terrestrial Planets.

Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune  are called Jovian Planets.

Jupiter is the biggest planet in our solar system.

Mercury  is the smallest planet in our solar system.

Mercury  rotation period is 58.65 days and revolution is 88 days

Fastest revolution in Solar system is Mercury.

 VENUS also called Earth's Twin.

VENUS is  popularly known as Evening star and Morning star.

VENUS  is seen in the east in the morning and in the west in the evening.

VENUS is 3rd brightest object after sun and moon.

VENUS is the Closest planet to earth and has no satelites.

VENUS is the hottest planet in Solar System.

VENUS contain 96% carbon dioxide  so that Greenhouse effect is more.

Slowest  rotation in Solar System (257 days).
